• With reference to Stallman's CACM article Why 'open source' misses the point, write a 300-500 word blog post agreeing or disagreeing with one of the following claims:
  • Free software (specifically software covered under the GPL) cannot be sold for money.
  • Free software and open source software are one and the same thing.
  • If we want our software to be acceptable in the real world, we should forget all this talk about 'freedom;' it's not relevant.

  Each student must write either a 300-500 word blog post or a carefully argued (approximately 300 word) response to some other student's post. Over the course of the semester you will all have a chance to be bloggers and commentors.

  Handin: Post your blogs and comments on the HFOSS blog, making sure you tag them with "CPSC225" tag. The first time you use the blog you will have to register. We will make you all authors.

  You will be graded on the seriousness and quality of your arguments and on the quality of your writing.
